It is the mission of the Corporation Counsel to provide civil legal counsel and advice to the county board and county agencies. The counsel is the county's civil attorney. While the district attorney's office now only handles criminal violations, juvenile delinquencies, and citations in which there is an underlying state charge, such as traffic violations, the balance of the county's legal work is the responsibility of the Corporation Counsel.
Clark County has also elected to delegate the majority of its labor law cases to an outside counsel. The Corporation Counsel is then left responsible for cases such as:
County ordinance violations
Other civil litigation involving the county
Rendering legal advice to the various county departments and the county board
Serving the County
The nature of the job is to be available to the county board and all departments to assist them with their legal problems, whatever their nature, and, if need be, represent them or the county in court to insure that the county's best interests and needs are represented and served.
