Mission Statement 
It is the mission of the Office of the Register of Deeds to record, index, maintain, and provide access to all real estate documents, uniform commercial code fixture filings, federal tax liens, military discharges, vital records, and other instruments, as prescribed by Wisconsin Statutes. 

The Wisconsin Constitution established the Register of Deeds office as a permanent element of the county government structure in 1848. The Clark County Register of Deeds office began operation on January 1, 1855.

Responsibilities 

 

Our office is responsible for the accurate and timely recording / filing and indexing of all real estate documents pertaining to property within Clark County. The purpose for recording real estate documents is two-fold: first, to provide constructive notice to the public of a transaction; and secondly, to perpetuate the history of title to a particular parcel of land. It is our duty to properly maintain and provide accessibility to these records. Clark County’s property tax rolls are derived from real estate documents recording in the Register of Deeds office. 

Records of births, deaths, and marriages, which occurred in Clark County, are on file in the Register of Deeds office, as well as military discharges. These documents are open to the public with the exception of non-marital births and the military discharges. 


Public Access 
We assist the public in locating the particular record they are looking for while overseeing access to the records to preserve their integrity. We provide certified and non-certified copies as requested upon receipt of the proper fee.
